Tantia was once filled with shallow seas with rocky mountains poking out from below the surf. Life did not evolve on the planet beyond single-cell organisms from what we can tell. Tantia was originally exploited for its vast surface water seas, which required no mining to harvest. Even though the oceans were quite salty, the water was still able to be evaporated, stored, desalinated, and transported for use on other planets. Nearby planets and moons, such as Syne, used this water to help terraform and develop agricultural capacity.
After workers had settled on Tantia to harvest the seas, they discovered that there was also an abundance of metal present within the mountains of the planet. Soon, small mining expeditions made their way to the planet, hoping to make their fortune on the ore-rich wasteland. After a few decades, almost all water had been harvested for use terraforming other worlds. This left giant salt lakes in between the mountains where the water used to be, which changed the economic and trading dynamic of the planet. Mining, however, only steadily increased over time.
One of the mining guilds, the Tantia Mining Guild, slowly bought and consolidated many of the other mining operations on the planet. The Tantia Mining Guild grew to become a large and powerful organization. As Tantia was inhabited almost entirely by miners, workers, or temporary labor, the Tantia Mining Guild (TMG) became the largest and most powerful economic, social, and political entity of the planet.
TMG built the first major city on the planet, Citreelis, and used it as a trade hub. Originally a private company 'city', TMG soon made Citreelis available to the public... and in the process, made themselves the unofficial rulers of the largest city on Tantia. TMG controlled the economy and mining operations of Citreelis, and even provided services for the citizens there, regardless of whether or not they worked for TMG. With no other large cities, or political entities, to contend with, TMG has essentially assumed full control of Tantia's planetwide operations.
Citreelis is located at the south pole of the planet, as the poles are the most temperate on the planet. The land around the equator, while livable and mineable, is very hot and uncomfortable for long periods of time. While Citreelis is the only major city on Tantia so far, there are other smaller towns and villages, however most of the population lives within the capital city. One of the reasons that so many live in Citreelis is because the planet is rather dangerous. The Tantia Mining Guild is relatively new compared to other governing organizations within The Sovereignty, and thus has yet to fully civilize the city, much less the whole planet. There are a lot of illegal miners who set up operations around the planet, without going through the guild. These rogue companies hate the guild and can be aggressive towards those who align themselves with the Tantia Mining Guild. These rogue operations are usually well funded and armed, clashing with the TMG security forces. While TMG is cracking down on these operations, our analysis warns tourists from this planet unless they have business to attend to on-site.
